Vision 2030: A Blueprint for a Sustainable Future

Pioneering the Hydrogen Economy
Saudi Arabia is not only investing in blue ammonia but is also adopting a circular carbon economy model to manage and reduce emissions. This involves the “4Rs” — reduce, reuse, recycle, and remove. The Kingdom is investing heavily in carbon capture, utilization, and storage technologies to transform CO2 into valuable products. Saudi Aramco is at the forefront of these innovations, having launched a project that converts CO2 into methanol.
In a groundbreaking achievement, Saudi Aramco shipped the world’s first carbon-neutral ammonia to Japan in 2020, marking a significant milestone for clean energy adoption worldwide. Furthermore, the Saudi Arabian Mining Co., or Ma’aden, recently exported 138,000 tons of blue ammonia to South Korea, showcasing the Kingdom’s leadership in this field.
Despite the challenges of high production costs and technological adaptation, Almizani remains optimistic about the future of blue ammonia, predicting that costs will decrease, making it more accessible and scalable. Saudi Arabia’s commitment to clean energy is also evident in its futuristic smart city, NEOM, which plans to host the world’s largest green ammonia plant by 2025.
